PlayStation Prism: verify your PS5 model before ordering the covers

Sony's transparent DualSense controllers and matching covers begin preorders in November, with launch starting in February 2027. Cover compatibility still needs a specific listing.

PlayStation's Prism Collection gives PS5 owners a new choice of transparent controllers and console covers. Anyone interested in the covers should first match the exact product listing to their console model: Sony's announcement does not specify the supported CFI groups.

Sony announced the collection on October 28, 2026, the same day as WIRED's originating coverage. Preorders begin November 10, while launch starts February 4, 2027. Sony qualifies the schedule and distribution by country or region, so a preorder date should not be mistaken for delivery before the end of this year.

Three finishes, two accessory decisions

The range includes DualSense wireless controllers and matching PS5 covers in Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Sony presents the transparent material and glossy finish as the attraction. Its announcement does not provide evidence of improved battery endurance, lower latency or greater durability.

A controller changes the object held during play; a cover changes the console's exterior. Choosing a matching color does not establish that both purchases serve the same need. The announcement also says covers are sold directly by PlayStation in the regions where its direct store operates, with selected retail distribution elsewhere.

A model number is more useful than a product photograph

Sony's cover replacement guide begins by asking owners to check their console model. The existing Slim cover page specifies CFI-2000 and CFI-2100 consoles for that product group.

Those are specifications for existing covers. They do not confirm Prism compatibility. Before ordering, look for the supported console group on the particular Prism cover listing and compare it with your own model number. If the listing does not establish the match, wait for that detail rather than infer it from the PS5 name or the promotional images.

Keep appearance separate from the need for another controller

A working DualSense remains a reasonable choice if its present behavior meets your needs. For someone who needs another controller before February, the existing DualSense range is a direct alternative to compare; it is a different finish choice, not the featured Prism product.

Prism is worth considering when the transparent appearance itself is the reason to buy. The remaining questions are the local launch arrangement and, for covers, verified fit. TechKili has not handled or tested the new accessories, so their feel and long-term wear remain open questions.
