Cyberpunk 2077's 2.5 update gives console players an in-game route to community mods, but using it changes what a save can earn: CD Projekt Red says achievements and trophies cannot be earned while playing a modded save on console. Players returning for Edgerunners 2 should make that choice before experimenting with their main playthrough.
The patch notes were published on October 21, 2026, the day The Verge covered the announcement. CDPR's separate October 22 launch notice confirms release on the first group of platforms. Announcement and delivery are different milestones here.
The storefront determines the rollout
CDPR's detailed release information makes an exception to its broad platform list. The official update page distinguishes Mac storefronts and still describes Nintendo Switch 2 as coming later.
| Installation | Published rollout status |
|---|---|
| PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S | October 22 release |
| Mac through Steam, GOG or Epic Games Store | October 22 release |
| Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac App Store | Later rollout; no exact date in the reviewed notices |
For a Switch 2 owner, inclusion in the feature list describes announced support, rather than proof that the download has arrived. Check the installed version and current official notice before troubleshooting a missing mod menu.
Keep an unmodded route if trophies matter
The new mod.io integration provides a selection of player-created mods through the game menu. That lowers the installation barrier for console owners. An in-game selection does not mean that every existing PC mod has become portable to every platform.
The notes say modded saves receive an identifying icon in the Load Game menu. If achievement completion matters, retain a separate unmodded save before trying the new system. The published notes do not explain whether removing a mod restores eligibility to a previously modded save, so that should not be assumed.
This is a choice between different ways to use an existing game: a progression run with its usual rewards, or a playthrough shaped by community additions. The mod browser's convenience is useful, but the save consequence belongs in the decision alongside it.
Returning does not require a new edition
CDPR's update FAQ says 2.5 is free for base-game owners and does not require Phantom Liberty or Ultimate Edition. It also says an existing playthrough can continue; a new game is unnecessary.
Access to an added quest still depends on progress. The patch notes require completion of The Heist and two Wakako gigs before the new Clampdown quest becomes available through a message. A player who cannot see it immediately may therefore be missing prerequisites rather than the update.
These are developer-documented changes, not TechKili performance or compatibility test results. For an existing owner, the useful next step is to confirm the platform build, preserve the save they care about and choose which additions to enable.
