AMD has released a PC driver that extends FSR Upscaling 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000 graphics and several Ryzen processor families. Xbox Series X|S is part of the expansion, but its delivery status is different: AMD describes console support as coming soon, without a date.
The October 20, 2026 announcement and same-day Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 release notes establish the PC release. The Verge also reported the expansion on October 20. This moves beyond the broad timing discussed in our earlier handheld-support report, while leaving some device schedules unresolved.
One announcement, several delivery states
FSR reconstructs a higher-resolution image from lower-resolution rendering. AMD initially limited FSR 4 to RX 9000 GPUs in 2025, then expanded FSR 4.1 to RX 7000 in July 2026. The new release broadens the hardware that can use the machine-learning upscaler.
| Platform | What the October 20 evidence establishes |
|---|---|
| Radeon RX 6000 | Listed for FSR Upscaling 4.1 in driver 26.10.1 |
| Ryzen AI Max 300/400 and Ryzen AI 9 300/400 | Listed in the same driver notes |
| Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Z2 Extreme and Z2 A handhelds | Named in the announcement; AMD says feature timing can vary by device and directs owners to their manufacturer |
| Xbox Series X|S | Announced as coming soon; no release date supplied |
For handheld owners, processor support is useful evidence, but the device maker's actual release remains part of the check. For console players, this announcement alone does not establish a game update they can install.
Upscaling does not bring every FSR feature with it
AMD's FSR technology guide describes upscaling and frame generation separately. Reconstructing detail and inserting intermediate frames are different operations. Support for the former therefore does not establish access to every feature sold under the broader FSR name.
Its current hardware table labels the expanded RX 6000, RX 7000 and Ryzen compatibility as upscaling only. That distinction matters when reading demonstrations of the complete Redstone feature set: a result produced with several features enabled is not a measurement of this upscaler alone.
Start with the game you actually play
A supported processor is only part of the software path. Check the game integration and your system's approved driver before judging the change. AMD's notes also retain known issues, including a War Thunder timeout on RX 5000 products for which it recommends 26.9.1. A newer package is not automatically the appropriate choice for every AMD system.
AMD's image-quality claims remain manufacturer claims; TechKili has not benchmarked this release. If your existing device works well, first establish that your model and games support the new path. There is no hardware purchase required merely to follow this software expansion.
