What changed

Google is expanding Search Console beyond traditional website ownership with a new property type for social and video accounts. The Verge reported on July 7, 2026, that the feature is called platform properties and is meant to show creators and publishers how people find their Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube content through Google Search.

Google's own Search Central announcement confirms the core change: platform properties let site owners and creators, including those without their own website, see how social and video posts perform on Google Search and Discover. Google says creators can track which search terms lead people to those posts and review how audiences interact with that content.

The feature is rolling out gradually, according to Google's Search Console Help documentation, so not every account will see it immediately.

What platform properties measure

Google's help page says each connected account or channel becomes its own Search Console property. The currently supported platforms are Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube.

The reports focus on Google surfaces, not the native analytics inside those platforms. Google says platform properties show how content performs on Google Search, and may also include News and Discover when content appears there. They do not show how many times a video or post was viewed inside TikTok, Instagram, X, or YouTube itself.

That boundary matters. A creator may already know how a post performs on the platform where it was published, but Search Console can add a different view: which queries surfaced that content, which posts earned clicks or impressions from Google, and whether Discover or News contributed traffic.

Why it matters for creators and publishers

For creators, this is a small but important shift in Search Console's role. The product has long been associated with sites, URL indexing, and search performance for owned domains. Platform properties acknowledge that many creators now build their audience across social and video platforms first, sometimes without a standalone site.

For publishers, the update is another sign that Google is trying to make Search and Discover more useful as a creator relationship layer. In June, Google announced Search profiles, which give eligible publishers and creators a central place on Search to show articles, videos, and social posts. Platform properties are not the same product, but they fit the same direction: more tools for understanding and shaping how creator content appears around Google.

The practical benefit is measurement. If a YouTube channel, TikTok account, or Instagram profile is already receiving discovery from Google, the owner can now inspect that traffic inside a familiar search analytics product instead of guessing from referral patterns or incomplete platform dashboards.

What to watch next

The first thing to watch is availability. Google's help page says the rollout is gradual, and new properties may take a few days before performance data appears.

The second question is how useful the reports become for day-to-day decisions. Google lists Performance reports, Insights, and Achievements for platform properties. If those reports expose enough post-level and query-level detail, creators could use them to decide which topics deserve follow-up videos, social posts, or website articles.

The third issue is expectations. Platform properties do not replace native platform analytics, and they do not show in-platform views. They are specifically a Google discovery lens. Used correctly, that makes them valuable. Used carelessly, they could lead creators to over-optimize for Search while missing the audience behavior that happens inside each platform.

The confirmed news is straightforward: Google is adding Search Console platform properties for Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube, with a gradual rollout and reporting focused on Google Search plus eligible Discover and News traffic. The analysis is that this gives creators a clearer view of off-platform discovery at a time when publishing, social distribution, and search visibility are increasingly connected.
