Anthropic began rolling out Personal Finance in Claude on November 5, 2026, letting eligible US subscribers connect financial accounts through Plaid and ask about their spending. The important boundary is permission: the feature can read account data, but cannot transfer or invest money.
The company's dated announcement describes a beta starting that week. The Verge's originating report appeared on November 5. Anthropic's current help documentation limits access to US users on Pro, Max and Ultra, with gradual rollout.
Reading an account still means sharing its records
Users authenticate through Plaid and choose which accounts to share; Anthropic says Claude does not receive the bank password. The disclosed data includes account identifiers, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions.
That makes this more specific than a conversation about a hypothetical budget. Claude can use the connected records to explain spending, while the user remains responsible for any banking action. The company says the tool is not designed to provide investment advice. Read-only permission describes an action limit, rather than a guarantee that financial data is no longer sensitive.
A plausible total can still be incomplete
The help page identifies practical reasons to compare an answer with bank records. Balances may lag by a day or two, the same account can be counted twice through separate logins, and spending totals omit a bank while Claude cannot read it.
Those limitations can change the meaning of a seemingly comfortable remaining budget. Before relying on a total, check which accounts contributed and whether the underlying transactions are current. An explanation that sounds coherent does not resolve missing inputs.
Unlinking access and deleting history are different steps
Anthropic says conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are excluded from model training; information shared outside it follows the user's privacy settings. This is the company's stated handling policy, rather than an independent security assessment.
The documentation also says unlinking a bank stops further reads but leaves previous material in chats, artifacts and shared links until removed. Someone finishing a trial should therefore review both the connection and the records already created. The useful decision is whether consolidating account questions in Claude is worth that continuing data-management responsibility.
